SMT PCB Assembly FAQs

SMT PCB assembly is the process of mounting electronic components on the surface of the printed circuit board rather than inserting them through holes.

Compared with through-hole technology, SMT not only enables lighter, more compact, and thinner PCB constructions but also speeds up the assembly process.

Commonly used parts are resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits or ICs, diodes, transistors and other surface mount passive and active devices.

This process includes application of solder paste, placement of the components through pick-and-place equipment, reflow soldering and inspection / test for quality checks.

SMD is the ones that are placed directly on the surface of the PCB while SMT is the process of placing and soldering the packaged devices. SMD is the parts while SMT is used as the manufacturing technique.

Surface mount technology is ideal for densely packed and intricate designs. For those boards that require high power and mechanical components, through-hole technology is preferred.

SMT generally leads to decrease of assembly costs mainly because of automation and increased efficiency, but these costs are not fixed and pegged to the degree of assembly complexity and the volume of assembly work done.

Of course we do provide turnkey SMT assembly services – we can manage the PCB fabrication, the component sourcing, PCB assembly and testing, all in-house.

Yes, we are able to handle orders of all sizes, from prototypes of a few pcs to large batch orders.

We carry out a series of testing methods to check the quality of each PCBA , including AOI, X-ray inspection, and functional testing.
