Eletromechanical Assembly: A Guide From Design to Manufacture

This text will introduce the definition of electromechanical assembly, types, design tips, and recommended manufacturers. Hope it will be helpful to your business.

What Is An Electromechanical Assembly?

What Is An Electromechanical Assembly?

Electromechanical assembly is to rationally organize, reliably connect, and effective install various components and electronic accessories, based on schematic diagram. The final product of electromechanical should be ready for practice application.

General Types of Eletromechanical Assemblies

Eletromechanical assemblies contain a large range of techniques. In the following text, we will introduce several types of assembly.

Cable and Harness Assembly

Positioning plate plays a role in determining the size of the line during the cable assembly process. However, In the process of wiring harness assembly, it is often possible to meet the size of the material number, but it cannot meet the size of the positioning plate. That causes a lot of unnecessary waste. Next, after laying each sub-material number on the positioning plate according to the requirements of the drawing, we will move on to wiring harness. Try to set the number region by region. The first step can be numbering a single region of the material, followed by numbering the simple sub-material in a cross-region. In the final step, we number the complex sub-material in cross-region.

After orderly numbering, we can insert PIN now. It should be noted that some TER without PIN should be inserted into the corresponding connector in advance. Binding is also a key process in cable and harness assembly. What you need to do is carefully following the binding position of the plate.

Switch & Sensor Assemblies

We can see switch and sensor assemblies as control panel assemblies. Control board is mainly used in industrial automation, building automation, power automation and other fields. For example, in the field of industrial automation, the control board can be used to control the operation of equipment such as robots and heaters. In the field of building automation, the control board can be applied to control the operation of lighting, air conditioning and other systems.

Printed Circuit Board Assemblies

SMT and DIP are both key ways of printed circuit board assemblies. SMT does not require drilling on the PCB, while DIP requires inserting components pins into the drilled holes.

Box Build Assemblies

Box build assembly is one-stop service which contains PCBA integration and installing enclosure. Therefore, it involves lots of technique, such as designing and manufacturing the mechanical boxes according to PCB, PCB assembly, enclosure install and cables assembly to PCB.

DIN Rails

DIN rail are used to install industrial electrical components, such as PLC, circuit breakers, switches, and contactors. It allows components attach to guide rail without screws for easy maintenance and replacement. When installing DIN rail mounted equipment, follow these steps: First, wear an ESD wrist strap. Ensure that one end of the wrist strap is grounded. And the other side of wrist trap touch your skin. Second, install DIN mounting kit to the rear panel by screwdriver and six M3 screws. Don’t forget to keep the tightening torque of screws below 3.3N·m. Third, we need to align the rear panel of device with the front of the DIN rail, ensuring that the DIN rail fits in the space between the hook at the top of the DIN mounting and the spring latch at the bottom.

So, every thing is ready for easy install now. Place the bottom end of the device away from the rail, then put DIN mounting hook on the top of the DIN rail. Meanwhile, you just need to gradually exert force in the direction of the DIN rail to move down the spring latch on the bottom of the DIN mounting unit.

Considerations in Designing Electromechanical Assemblies

To realize electromechanical assembly, it is necessary to carry out the assembly design of electronic equipment, which will affect the performance of electronic equipment. The factors that need to be considered includes electronic connection, assembly structure, grounding design, anti-impact and so on.

Electronic Connection

Commly, we call the electrical connection between units in an electronic system as interconnection. And the joint at the contact is called a connection. Interconnection and connection are both very important links in assembly technology. More and more, printed circuit are still the main means of interconnection. It is developing into high-tech features like multi-layer, high density, high performance, high precision and high productivity. The connector is a key part of the connection between the assembly stages. It plays an important role in ensuring the reliability of electrical contact. Last but no least, welding is an traditional connections, which aims at improving the reliability of the connection. It has evolved into winding and crimping.

Assembly Structure

Plug-in component, plug-in boxes, chassis, cabinets and cabins are the places where electronics are assembled. Hence, assembly structure design should have good electromagnetic shielding, grounding, heat dissipation, stiffness and strength performance, and an effective protective against negative effect from surrounding environment. Accordingly, assembly structure design involves the comprehensive application of electromagnetic compatibility, thermal design, vibration and shock protection, ergonomics, structural mechanics and other disciplines.

Grounding

Between circuit units and between electronic devices, there are interference induced by electromagnetic fields, power feeders and ground wires. In order to prevent these phenomena, effective shielding solution should be taken in the structure, such as reasonable layout, grounding system of signal lines and power feeders.

Heat Dissipation

In order to ensure the normal operation of electronic equipment within the specified temperature range, it is necessary to consider heat dissipation. So, we can adopt some measures such as natural cooling, ventilation cooling, liquid cooling, evaporative cooling, heat pipe heat transfer and semiconductor cooling.
