How do you test a washing machine control board?

Washing machine does not work. Since it just bought one years ago, the components in it is not old, I think. So I want to check it from its PCB. Any tips on this?

It is a good way to fully test a modern appliance circuit board by connecting it up to a checked and fully functioning appliance the same as it came from. Even the manufacturers repair guys’ test boards that way if they have the same dilemma.
You can also visually check all of the solder joints and connectors and test the components that can be tested with a meter (resistors, capacitors and traces).
Contact the suppliers for after-sales service if it is within the warranty period.

Is there any problems if I change 0805 too 0402 surface mount or smaller?

In order to reduce the size of a PCB, I will probably have to use smaller SM components. I currently use mostly 0805 passives, and am thinking about going to 0402 or smaller. Apart from power dissipation considerations, any pitfalls I should be aware of when making the transition?
